Iran Loses Contact with Drone in International Waters

(MENAFN) Iran reported losing communication with one of its drones after it completed a surveillance mission in international waters. Officials said the drone, identified as a Shahed-129, successfully transmitted its reconnaissance and monitoring data to the control center before contact was lost.

The drone, operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was conducting what Iranian authorities described as a “routine and legal mission” involving monitoring, surveillance, and imaging in international waters. The cause of the communication failure is under investigation.

The report follows claims from US military officials that an Iranian drone was shot down in the Arabian Sea after approaching an American aircraft carrier. US forces emphasized that measures are being taken to ensure the safety of personnel, ships, and aircraft in the region.

The incident comes amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States, marked by a US military buildup in the Persian Gulf and repeated warnings of potential military action.
